Templates and community quizzes
You do not have to start from a blank quiz. Your instance has a catalogue of templates offered by its hosts, and it can also offer community quizzes published by other authors. This page covers taking a quiz from either, presenting a quiz another host shares, and offering or sharing your own.
Three ways to share, three different things
Section titled “Three ways to share, three different things”| Who sees it | What they get | |
|---|---|---|
| Share with the instance’s other hosts (quiz settings) | The other hosts of your instance, in their quiz list | Your quiz itself, read-only. They can present it without keeping results, or choose Create a quiz from this to get a copy. |
| Offer as a template | Every host of your instance, in Templates | A copy in the catalogue, to take independent copies from. |
| Export for publication | Anyone, once you publish the file in the community store | A file checked against what the community store accepts. |
Present a quiz another host shares
Section titled “Present a quiz another host shares”A quiz another host shares shows in your quiz list, read-only, with its owner’s name. You can present it as it is, without a copy of your own. It must be ready, with at least one question. Choose Present without keeping results:
- on its card in the quiz list;
- in its read-only view, where it is the main action, next to Create a quiz from this;
- or pick it in a room’s quiz picker (Choose the quiz, Change quiz), where it is marked “by {name}, nothing kept”.
Nothing of such a game is kept: no session in History or Sessions, no results, no answers. In the lobby, Record all answers and Personalised tracking are greyed: “Another host’s quiz, presented as it is: nothing of it is kept.” No Archive this quiz’s results is offered when it ends. The players’ notice says “Nothing of this quiz is recorded: neither your taking part nor your answers.” In a room, the quiz counts in the live room standings while the room is open.
Ratings still reach the quiz: its owner reads them in Reviews, as Anonymous, with no nickname.
The owner may edit, unshare or delete the quiz meanwhile: a game in progress plays to its end, as the quiz was when it started. Once the quiz is no longer shared or ready, it cannot be presented again.
To keep the results, choose Create a quiz from this first, and present your copy.
Take a template
Section titled “Take a template”The Templates tab of Quizzes lists the quizzes the hosts of this instance have offered as templates, including the twelve sample quizzes QuizDock ships, one per country (Discover France, Discover Japan…).
- Search, filter by language or tags, and sort (Recently offered, Title (A–Z), Most questions).
- Open a template to preview its questions and slides, its author and its licence.
- Choose Create a quiz from this.
You get an independent copy in My quizzes, as a new draft with its own media: yours to rename, cut, publish and present. Nothing is pushed back to you afterwards: if the author offers a new version, your copy does not change.
Offer a quiz as a template
Section titled “Offer a quiz as a template”- Mark the quiz ready (Publish (ready)).
- In its settings, under Language & sharing, choose a Licence (CC0, CC BY 4.0 or CC BY-SA 4.0). A template is meant to be reused, so the licence is required: it travels with every copy. Set the Language and a few Tags too, so that other hosts find it.
- In More, choose Offer as a template, then confirm.
The editor confirms with “Offered as a template (revision 1).” Other hosts take their own copies and change them as they please; your quiz is never modified by what they do. Offering it again later replaces the catalogue entry with the new version and raises its revision.
To stop offering it, choose Withdraw on the template in Templates. Only its author or an administrator can withdraw a template. The copies already taken are not touched.
You must hold the rights to the quiz’s content and media. Credit each media (author, licence, source) in its Credit field; see Media.
Templates cannot be offered on the live demo.
Community quizzes
Section titled “Community quizzes”When your instance is connected to a community catalogue, Templates shows a Community quizzes link. Whether it appears is an instance setting: ask whoever runs your instance. The community catalogue is still in preparation and may be empty.
On Community quizzes:
- Search, filter by language and tags, and sort.
- Open a quiz to preview its questions, slides and media. Each one shows its author, its licence and its Source.
- Choose Create a quiz from this. The copy lands in your bank as a new draft and does not receive updates.
Quizzes come from other authors: check the source, the licence, the answers and the media credits before you play one. Report a problem opens the author’s issue tracker with the quiz’s details filled in.
Publish to the community store
Section titled “Publish to the community store”Export for publication (in More) checks the quiz against what the community store accepts, then downloads the file to put in your own quiz repository for the store. It lists:
- The quiz is ready;
- the Language, the Licence and the Tags (at least one);
- the Size, at most 20 MB by default;
- {n} media without a credit, or Every media has a credit.
Each check that fails says how to fix it. Short name is how the store knows the quiz in your repository; changing it later makes a new quiz for the store. The store’s contributor guide describes how to publish the file.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”Does someone who copied my template get my changes?
Section titled “Does someone who copied my template get my changes?”No. A copy is independent from the moment it is taken. Offering it again updates the catalogue entry, so later copies get the new version; earlier copies stay as they were.
Can other hosts change a quiz I share with them?
Section titled “Can other hosts change a quiz I share with them?”No. A quiz shared with the instance’s other hosts is read-only for them. They can present it without keeping results, or create their own copy.
Do I see the results when another host presents my quiz?
Section titled “Do I see the results when another host presents my quiz?”No. Nothing of their game is kept, for them or for you. Only the ratings reach you, in Reviews, without a nickname.
Can I share a quiz that uses photos from the web?
Section titled “Can I share a quiz that uses photos from the web?”Only if you hold the rights to them. Pick media under a free licence (the media library links to free libraries when the instance offers them) and credit each one.
