Selections

A selection is a named list of quizzes, in order, to present into a room in one go: after each quiz, the room’s lobby picks the next one. This page covers making a selection, presenting it, saving a room as one, and sharing it.

Quizzes has a Selections tab, next to My quizzes, Templates and Themes. It lists your selections and those other hosts share with you, as cards or a list. Search the selections, Owner (once another host shares one with you) and Sort by narrow and order it.

Each selection shows its first quizzes, its number of quizzes (“3 quizzes · 2 playable” when some cannot be played), and its owner when it is another host’s. A selection you share carries Shared. Its main action is Present. On yours, ⋮ holds Delete: its quizzes and the results of its launches stay. On another host’s, Create a selection from this sits next to Present.

  1. Choose New selection. It opens, named “New selection”.
  2. Edit its name in place, up to 60 characters, and a Description if you want one: what it is for, who it is for.
  3. Choose Add a quiz: one of your quizzes, or one shared with you. Each quiz once.

A selection holds at most 50 quizzes. Changes are saved as you make them.

Under Quizzes, in order, each line shows the quiz’s first step as a small picture, its title, its number of questions, its owner when it is another host’s, its pace and Autostart. Select a line to set:

Setting What it does
Pace Paced by hand (the default): you move on yourself. Automatic pace: the room starts the quiz with Autoplay on.
Autostart On (the default), the lobby’s 30-second countdown starts the quiz, as for any next quiz in a room. Off, it waits for Start the quiz.

To reorder, drag a line by its handle, or select it and use the arrows. A line’s ⋮ offers Open the quiz, Preview, the moves, and Remove from the selection.

A quiz that cannot be played stays in the list, greyed, with why: “draft: cannot be played”, “archived: cannot be played” or “no question: cannot be played”. A deleted quiz leaves the list.

Choose Present, on the selection or on its card. The room opens on the first quiz that can be played, with its pace. From there it is an ordinary room: same console, same lobby choices, same archives. See Start a room.

After each quiz, going back to the lobby picks the selection’s next quiz on its own: the first of the list the room has not played yet, with its pace and its Autostart. A quiz that cannot be played is skipped. Change quiz still picks any other quiz: the selection then goes on where it was, and a quiz you skipped stays next until it is played. Once every quiz is played, the lobby waits for Choose the quiz.

In the lobby, the console shows the selection, “Selection: {name} · 2 of 3”: its quizzes that can be played, those played ticked, and the next one.

Present is unavailable when none of the selection’s quizzes can be played.

A room you opened from a single quiz can become a selection once it has played a quiz. Save as a selection is offered:

  • in the console’s lobby, and when the room closes: every quiz the room played, in order, each with the pace it had;
  • afterwards, on the room’s card in Sessions and in a session’s report: the room’s archived quizzes, in order, each paced by hand. See Reports and history.

The new selection is named after the room, and leaves out the quizzes you can no longer read. “Saved as a selection: open it” leads to it.

The selection’s page lists its Launches, newest first: each room you opened from it, with its date, its participants, and each quiz’s success rate. A launch shows once its results are kept: a quiz closed without Archive this quiz’s results is not in it. Another host’s launch of your shared selection never shows here.

Under Sharing, tick Share with the instance’s other hosts. They see it among their selections, read-only, and can:

  • Present it: they play the quizzes they may read, and each one shared with them is played keeping nothing (see Templates and community);
  • Create a selection from this: their own selection, on the same quizzes. It copies none of them, and nothing links the two afterwards.

Sharing a selection does not share its quizzes: you share each one in its own settings. Sharing says how many of its quizzes are not shared: the other hosts do not see them. A selection none of whose quizzes they may read does not show to them at all.

Does a selection keep a copy of its quizzes?

Section titled “Does a selection keep a copy of its quizzes?”

No. It refers to them: a quiz you edit between two launches is played in its new version. Each archived session keeps its own copy of the quiz as it was played.

No, each quiz once. To play a quiz again in the room, pick it with Change quiz.

Does a selection set the lobby’s choices?

Section titled “Does a selection set the lobby’s choices?”

No. Record all answers, Personalised tracking, participant access, the language of the screens and the sound stay the room’s, chosen at each launch. A selection only holds what depends on its quizzes: their order, their pace and Autostart.
